While sitting under the dryer in the hair salon one fine day, waiting for my Locs to tighten up...I stumbled upon a book entitled "Headwraps" written by a woman named Georgia Scott. Scott explains that in America she would see Black women "wrapping" their hair and would question them as to what made them wear headwraps. Scott would more than likely receive the confident answer of..... "this is the way women in Africa wrap their hair".....For some reason that makes me smile....women...Black women being proud to actually resemble African women makes me warm inside...anyway back to headwraps :)....As a writer Scott had this idea to travel through different parts of Africa in search of any truth to this response. All in all she found that their were so many ways African women would wrap their hair...depending on their culture, religion, and sometimes depending on the environment....she also found African men who would wear headwraps. Below is a picture of the book cover as well as some pics of women in headwraps that I love (these are not in the book). This was a great book that not only opened my eyes up to the world of "headwraps", but was also filled with beautiful pictures which would fit very nicely on a coffee table...wink wink ;)

Headwraps have also become a very popular accessory in the Fashion Industry as you can see from the pictures of the models below...

.....They are even often worn by celebrities like Solange Knowles and Erykah Badu as you can see in the picture below...Although, Ms. Badu has been wearing headwraps since I can remember her as an artist.
